Offline notes#

The installed app can download every note you have access to, open them with no connection, edit and create notes offline, and sync when you are back. See Collaboration and offline.

Sites#

Publish any page tree as a static website, with a docs layout and a blog and portfolio layout, stable paths, rollback and three republish modes. This site is the first one. See Sites.

Views, queries and charts#

Three new views: Checklist, Matrix and Outline.
List views can be gathered into sections, and smart lists appear in the navigation rail.
Filters on every view, several sort keys, wider grouping and column summaries.
Filters with any-of groups, structural fields such as the kind of item, and relative day tokens.
A title search and saved filters inline above each view.
Charts gained column, pie, line and area types, a time axis, series split by a choice field, and a year grid. Habit insights show a year grid too.
Spreadsheet view cells are edited with controls that match each field's type.
Ad-hoc queries and aggregates across a workspace.

Formulas#

An extended formula language and a full formula guide with worked examples, error explanations and limits.

Calendar and protections#

Two-way sync with Google Calendar and Microsoft Outlook, managed from a Calendars tab in settings, with a visible sync log.
Drag and resize calendar entries in 15-minute steps, and a fixed month grid.
Item protections: no delete and no children, and managed items for linked calendars.

A six-entry New menu that asks for a title and a location for every new item.
Usable Vim and Emacs modes.
Responsive Zen mode and better touch editing.
Simpler writing and navigation on phones.
Model-free suggestions across notes and views, with an off switch.
A rebuilt graph: camera with fit, pan and zoom, folding branches, neighbourhoods, size by references, a time view and new layouts.
Hide an item's children from your workspace tree.
Improved finance and habit workflows, and clearer daily note errors.

The companion pet#

Design and building now happen in the one chat, without a separate Design mode.
Block-level note edits, with the changed block shown before and after on the approval card.
The pet can read your calendar, complete tasks, and inspect and refine views.
Apply without asking, for one conversation at a time.

nixctl#

Browser-approved, renewable sign-in for nixctl, so you no longer need to paste a token on your own machine.

Accounts#

Verified email addresses and pending workspace invitations are refreshed when you sign in.

Self-hosting#

Fewer services to run: search now runs inside PostgreSQL, so the separate search index and its worker are gone, as is the central logging stack.
CI rebuilds only the images whose sources changed, and retags the rest.

The companion pet#

ChatGPT companions with explicitly approved workspace tools.
Animated characters: Owl, Eye of Ra, Demiurge, Fox and Neko, with a launcher you can move.
Structure tools: the pet can create structured containers, add fields and views, edit forms, set recurrence, apply templates and build whole blueprints, each shown as a preview before it runs.
Save a subtree as a template from the pet.
Typed tools for each operation, streaming replies and a redesigned chat.
Clear reporting of which tool calls are waiting for your decision.

Notes and files#

Embedded live sections of other notes, editable in place, and explicit page breaks that exports honour.
Image uploads and resizing in notes, and better table editing.
PDF and image previews, and Mermaid file previews.
Imports of Word, PDF and plain text documents as editable notes, with the original kept alongside.

Structure and data#

Password locks, first for bodies and then for a locked item's whole subtree, its children and its views.
The habit tracker, with progress, streaks and embedded charts.
Personal finance: accounts, loans, budgets with actuals, transactions and scheduled postings, edited in place.
The Drive view for files, available from the New menu.
Templates with initialisation inputs and attachments that travel with them.

A redesigned workspace settings screen and a workspace management menu.
Archiving and purging workspaces, and trash controls.

The installed app#

Better phone and tablet layouts.
The app now feels native: right-click context menus, a keyboard shortcuts dialog, copies of opened notes kept on the device, and returning to where you left off.

Self-hosting#

Docker Compose became the default production target.
Production runs from multi-architecture images published to the GitHub Container Registry for every commit.
A one-command release script with a plan, a confirmation, drift preview and a smoke test.
Verified backups that are restored into isolation before a release proceeds, with off-site copies and a nightly schedule.

August turned the foundations laid at the end of July (the item tree, cascading fields, collaborative notes and the first list, board, calendar, gallery and timeline views) into a workspace you could live in.

Editor#

Columns, collapsible sections, references and two new text marks in a new document schema version.
A drag handle on every block, colour and highlight from a selection bubble, toggles and columns that repair themselves after a merge.
Wiki links with an item picker, a slash menu read from the document, and a backlinks panel.
Picture picker with paste, drop, thumbnail and undo.
Optional Vim and Emacs key bindings, and collaborative undo and redo shortcuts.

Views and data#

Spreadsheet bodies, with resizable columns.
Smart lists and a cross-container query view; form and spreadsheet views over a container's children.
Interactive forms behind revocable public links, and a guided studio for setting up structured views.
Gallery card sizes. Drag unscheduled items onto the hour they belong at.
A collated workspace calendar that gathers every calendar into one, with drag to reschedule and a filter by note.
Task fields with meaning: due date, start date, completion, priority, estimate and assignee, plus an Assigned to me smart list.

Import, export and templates#

Export to .nix, PDF and Word, then Markdown, with a loss report and views drawn into the document.
Markdown import in the web app and from nixctl, with a preview, a report and undo. Markdown pipe tables become editor tables.
Workspace templates with atomic capture and apply, and managed templates kept up to date on deployment.

nixctl#

The first release of nixctl: workspaces, items, schema, properties, views, queries, search, note bodies as Markdown, import, export and recurrence.
Stress commands for seeding a container at scale and measuring read, query and search latency.

Accounts and the app#

Personal access tokens, with a management screen.
Sign-in mediated by Core, with personal workspaces created on first sign-in.
